Energy Assistance Crisis

How This Program Helps

Crisis Assistance helps households stay safe during urgent heating emergencies. It offers short-term support when immediate help is needed.

Support may include:

  • A one-time deposit for heating service
  • A portable heater for temporary use
  • Help paying for heating fuel or utility bills
  • Emergency shelter support
  • Repair or replacement of heating equipment

Another part of the program helps improve home energy use. A different state agency manages that service.

Data Notes

  • Final funding for FFY 2011 was not determined until April 2011 and awarded in May 2011. As a result, allocations for Energy Assistance Program (EAP) Fuel and Crisis (fall and winter 2010-2011) were lower than the previous year.
  • The average payment per household amounts for 2021-22 were higher than usual due to the receipt of additional ARPA funds in this timeframe.
