More than 700 children and teens in Virginia’s foster care system are waiting for a permanent, loving family. Could you be the one?

Meet Virginia’s Children

Every child deserves a safe, stable and loving home. When children cannot return safely to their families, adoption offers them the chance for permanency, stability and lifelong support.

Virginia’s children waiting for adoption come from many different backgrounds. They range in age from infants to teenagers, and many have experienced loss, trauma or instability. What they need most is a family that will provide love, patience and a sense of belonging.

How to Search

  • Visit the Meet Virginia's Children page to view children currently available for adoption.
  • Browse profiles and learn more about each child’s story.
  • Write down the name and case number of each child you’re interested in.
  • Share this information when you contact your local department of social services or adoption agency.

Who Can Adopt?

To adopt in Virginia, you must be at least 18 years old. Adoptive parents may be single, married, divorced or widowed.

The Commonwealth of Virginia welcomes adoptive parents from all backgrounds. No one is denied the opportunity to adopt because of culture, religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or marital status.

  • If you are married but separated, you must finalize your divorce before you can adopt.
