Fair processes. Clear next steps.
If you need to appeal a decision, understand your rights or find the right review process, this page can help. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) offers several compliance and appeals pathways to support fairness, accountability and access to services.
An Administrative Disqualification Hearing reviews possible intentional program violations in SNAP, TANF or Child Care. A hearing officer issues a written decision.
If you disagree with a benefits or services decision, you may have the right to appeal. Medicaid appeals go through the Department of Medical Assistance Services.
Child Protective Services findings have a separate appeals process. Please review this section before publishing because the beta appeals page returned an error.
State law allows child support hearings. Appeal requests must be in writing and include your name, mailing address and case number. Submit by mail, email or fax.
Virginia Department of Social Services and local offices must provide equal access. The Office of Civil Rights supports compliance, investigations and accessibility.
Have your notice or decision letter ready. Gather records that support your case. Follow the deadlines and instructions for your program or case type.
If your situation has changed since the original decision, contact your case worker or program contact first. Some appeals are based only on the facts available when the decision was made.
