Faith groups play an important role in supporting people and families. When these groups partner with the Virginia Department of Social Services, families can access help sooner and build stability over time.
VDSS supports this work through the Faith and Community Initiative. The initiative partners with faith-based and local groups to help families stay safe, healthy and connected. It also supports prevention, treatment and recovery for people affected by drug use.
The initiative helps faith and community groups connect with VDSS, including support programs and grants.
VDSS offers training opportunities, a resource library and a Faith and Communities as Recovery Allies program to help faith groups support people on their path to recovery.
The initiative offers monthly email updates, online learning opportunities and connections to a group of faith group leaders from regions across Virginia.
