Who Are Mandated Reporters?

Mandated Reporters play a critical role in preventing future harm by recognizing abuse and neglect and reporting it promptly.

Under Virginia law (§ 63.2-1509 for children and § 63.2-1606 for adults), specific professionals have a legal duty to report suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation. These include teachers, health care providers, law enforcement, social workers and others who regularly work with children or vulnerable adults.

Mandated to Report. Empowered to Help. Mandated Reporters help protect Virginia’s children and vulnerable adults.
