The U.S. Census Bureau produces yearly estimates of income and poverty for states, counties and school districts. These estimates come from the Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates program.
The data helps guide how federal funds are shared with states and local communities. State and local programs also use this information to manage income-based support programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Medicaid.
This report shows poverty estimates for each locality in Virginia. Communities and leaders can use the data to better understand economic needs and plan services that support families.
