LDSS Annual Profile Report

The Local Department of Social Services (LDSS) Annual Profile Report shares a snapshot of each of Virginia’s 120 local departments of social services.

Opening the Reports

To open a report:

  • Select one of the cards, such as ALICE Households.
  • Each card opens a Power BI report on a new page.

It may take a short time for the report to load.

Choosing Data

You can select a local agency and choose the year of data you want to view. Unless noted otherwise, the report displays information by state fiscal year, which ends June 30.

The Virginia Department of Social Services Office of Research and Planning updates sections of the report each year as new data becomes available. In some cases, earlier data may change if the original data source updates its information.

ALICE Households

This report shows how many households earn above the poverty level but still struggle to afford basic needs such as housing, food, child care and health care.

Benefit Programs

This report explains programs that provide income support and employment services. These programs help people move toward greater stability and independence.

Births

This report shows rates of teen and non-marital births in Virginia. The information highlights communities that may benefit from additional family support services.

Health Insurance

This report shows how many people in each Virginia locality do not have health insurance. This information helps communities understand the need for programs such as Medicaid and FAMIS.

Population

This report shares Virginia population estimates and key demographic trends between official census counts.

Poverty

This report shows poverty estimates for each locality in Virginia. This information helps communities understand the need for programs such as TANF, SNAP and Medicaid.

Family Services

This report shows Family Services profiles across Virginia. It highlights how state and local partners work together to support children and families.

Social Services Spending

This report shows how local social services spending is tracked through the state system that manages budgets and reimbursements for local departments.

Unemployment

This report shows the number of people who are unemployed and the unemployment rate in each Virginia locality.

Staffing

This report shows filled and vacant positions in each local social services agency. This information helps support workforce planning across Virginia.
