IRB Membership

Membership Requirements

By law, the IRB must have at least five active voting members. Members represent different fields and perspectives. Some come from outside VDSS.

At least two members must be “non-scientists” — people whose work is not in science or research. They may work in law, business, faith communities or advocacy. Their role is to bring community values and ethical perspectives to the process.

Appointments

• Members are appointed by the VDSS Commissioner.
• Terms last two years and may be renewed.
