Virginia Initiative for Education and Work (VIEW)

VIEW helps people who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families build job skills, gain work experience and move toward financial independence.

The program offers training, education and employment opportunities that support both immediate needs and long-term goals. VIEW gives people a safe and supportive path to grow their skills and prepare for the workforce.

VIEW is a mandatory workforce program for people who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

Full Employment Program (FEP)
Community Work Experience Program (CWEP)
Public Service Program (PSP)

FEP is a subsidized employment program for VIEW participants through their local department of social services.

CWEP offers VIEW program participants with little or no work experience a chance to learn job skills through unpaid work experience at public or nonprofit organizations. Participants can build skills, develop positive work habits and get a job reference that can lead to paid work and future opportunities.

PSP provides VIEW program participants unpaid work experience in public or nonprofit organizations that offer a direct benefit to the community. Participants learn new skills and build good work habits. Job sites may include:

  • Health and social services
  • Environmental protection
  • Education
  • City or rural development
  • Recreation
  • Public safety
  • Public facilities
  • Childcare
