Domestic Violence: Safety and Support

Your Safety Comes First

Your safety — and your children’s safety — matters most.
If there is violence in your home, you can take steps to stay safe. A safety plan can help you leave quickly if you choose to.

Build a Simple Safety Plan

Consider sharing your plan with someone you trust. You may choose to leave with:

  • A small amount of money
  • An extra set of keys
  • Important papers, such as copies of birth certificates and Social Security cards
  • A list of important phone numbers

A trusted person can help keep these items safe for you.
